IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur Launch India's First Bachelor of Cybersecurity Programme

IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur have launched India's first four-year Bachelor of Cybersecurity (B.Cyber.) programme, starting in July 2026. This initiative addresses the increasing demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals in India, which currently faces a shortage of approximately 1.5 million experts. The curriculum combines academic study with two years of industry experience, including a Field Deployment Professional Project where students will work on live cybersecurity projects. The programme aims to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills across various domains, including vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, and critical infrastructure security. Admissions will be based on JEE Main scores and an in-person test, including a hackathon, scheduled for July 5, 2026.
