Back Wgme Covenant Health reports expanded data breach affecting 284,000 Mainers
LEWISTON, Maine (WGME) -- The owner of a hospital in Maine is reporting a much larger data breach than first reported.
More than 280,000 Mainers are affected.
Covenant Health, which owns St. Mary's in Lewiston, filed a large, amended data breach with the Maine Attorney General's Office Wednesday.
According to the filing, 478,000 people had their personal information accessed because of the breach.
That includes more than 284,000 Mainers.
Covenant reported in July 4,600 Mainers we affected.
The information accessed could include names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, and social security numbers.
Covenant is offering credit monitoring and identity-theft protection to those affected.
