Italy’s security services detected a cyberattack targeting facilities related to the Winter Olympic Games and the country’s diplomatic missions, said Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. According to the ANSA agency, among the targets were the Italian Embassy in Washington and consulates in Sydney, Toronto, and Paris. The cyberattacks also affected websites connected to the Winter Games, including hotel portals in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Responsibility for the attack was claimed by the pro-Russian hacker group Noname057. In a statement published on its associated Telegram channel, it says:

The pro-Ukrainian policy of the Italian government leads to the punishment of supporters of Ukrainian terrorists with our DDoS attacks

Antonio Tajani stressed that the cyberattack bears a clear “Russian fingerprint.” He added that the authors themselves confirmed this, stating the reason why they carried out the attack. According to the minister, the cyberattack has been thwarted. The 25th Winter Olympic Games 2026 will be held from February 6 to 22 in Italy.

At the competitions, Russia will be represented by only 13 athletes in neutral status – without a flag and anthem. The same restrictions apply to Belarusian participants.
