New Delhi: Tata Electronics has confirmed a cybersecurity incident after a ransomware group allegedly published more than 200,000 files linked to the company, including documents claimed to contain confidential Apple and Tesla data.
According to cybersecurity researchers, the ransomware group World Leaks uploaded over 630 GB of data on the dark web, including engineering drawings, manufacturing specifications, internal emails, employee passport copies and system logs. Some of the leaked files reportedly carried confidentiality markings belonging to Apple and Tesla.
Tata Electronics said it detected a cybersecurity incident on some of its systems a few weeks ago and immediately activated its response protocols. The company maintained that the breach has not affected its operations.
Researchers who reviewed the data said the cache includes Apple-related manufacturing documents, material specifications and quality inspection standards for iPhone components. Tesla-linked files reportedly include engineering drawings and documents connected to "Project Highland", the automaker's revamped Model 3 programme.
Apple is reportedly investigating the incident, while Tata Electronics is said to have received a ransom demand. Tesla has not publicly commented on the alleged leak.
The breach has drawn attention because Tata Electronics has become one of Apple's largest manufacturing partners outside China and is also a supplier to Tesla. Industry estimates suggest Tata accounts for roughly one-third of iPhone production in India.
The authenticity and full extent of the leaked data have not yet been independently verified.
