will begin issuing payments from its $725 million class action lawsuit this month, and you may be able to earn some money.

The social media company is paying out a settlement from class action lawsuits that claimed the company allowed third-party firms to access user data without permission. This came after the Cambridge Analytica scandal in the 2010s, where the now-defunct marketing firm was accused of using data to target voters in the 2016 presidential election.

Anyone who used between May 2007 and December 2022 was eligible to opt into the settlement in 2023. The payout was delayed for years due to appeals, but now the payments will be coming this month.

began making payments last week on Wednesday, Sept. 3, according to Angeion, the company handling the settlement. There were 28 million people who filed claims in 2023, and some have already begun receiving emails saying the payment is coming soon.

If your claim was approved, you will receive an email three to four days before the payment comes through, the settlement website says.

Though the settlement was $725 million, it is distributed among the millions of people who filed claims. The Hill reported that the plaintiff lawyers estimated the size of the payout would be $30 per person.

There were eight people named in the settlement case, and they will each receive $15,000.

Claimants could have either opted to receive the settlement in the mail or digitally via Venmo, PayPal, Zelle or ACH. The other option was receiving the check in the mail.
