France summons Russian embassy representative over cyberattacks
This was stated in a press release by the spokesperson for the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ukrinform reports.
"The aim of the summoning was to condemn in the strongest terms the malicious cyber activities conducted by Russia in France, particularly those carried out by the FSB's Centre 16," the French foreign ministry said.
As a reminder, FSB Centre 16 is a unit of the Russian special service that the French authorities link to cyber-espionage operations by the Turla group, including against state institutions and strategic facilities in France.
The ministry stressed that this activity is directed not only against France, but also against many of its European partners.
"These activities, which also target a number of our European partners, are unacceptable and unworthy of a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council," the statement said.
The Russian diplomat was also informed that France, together with its partners, will continue to use all available means to counter destabilization operations.
As Ukrinform reported, in the coming days France will summon the Russian ambassador in Paris and impose sanctions on nine individuals and four entities responsible for a large-scale cyberattack organized by Russia's FSB against ten European countries.
