DDoS attacks suffered by Gears of War: E-Day over the weekend were to blame for players being suddenly disconnected from servers and having trouble logging in, according to devs The Coalition. The chunkily-armoured shooter's online services were targeted, it would seem in a deliberate effort to grind the Gears to a halt.

"Earlier today, some players experienced intermittent disconnects, login issues, or other service disruptions in Gears of War: E-Day," the studio posted at around 2AM BST on October 12th. "These issues were due to distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting our online services.

"Our teams are continuing to monitor and mitigate this activity. We’ll provide updates if there are any significant changes. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

The attacks came during E-Day's first weekend live, it having released last Tuesday on October 6th. Having to fight a battle to avoid players being locked out of online play by a barrage of bogus requests would be a problem for any shooter, but it happening during those key early momentum-building days following launch makes it even less ideal.

Due to being amid a particlarly huge splurge of new releases recently, E-Day's one we've not reviewed here at RPS. So, here are verdicts on E-Day from two Fenix fans I've previously had the privilege of working with - Europeanvideogamer 's Dom Peppiatt and Respec 's Tom Orry.

E-Day devs The Coalition are, of course, owned by Microsoft, who are currently subject to a BDS movement boycott over their reported ties to the Israeli military. Their gaming arm, Xbox, are also in the midst of mass layoffs which have seen multiple studios sent packing or given new management.
