Globe restores internet after PH-Singapore cable disruption

Backendnews • October 4, 2026

Globe has fully restored internet services following a subsea cable disruption between the Philippines and Singapore that slowed connections for some mobile and broadband customers.

The telecommunications company said data traffic resumed after the cable landing station in the Philippines reactivated the system and brought fiber connections back to normal. Customers who experienced intermittent connections, slower browsing, or delays accessing international online services should now see normal service.

“Our teams are working continuously to ease congestion and restore normal internet service as quickly as possible. In parallel, we are working with our partners to validate the cause of the disruption,” said Joel Agustin, SVP head of Network Planning and Engineering at Globe, in the company’s earlier advisory.

Globe continues to work with its international network partners to determine the exact nature and location of the fault. The restoration brings back international bandwidth, or the capacity available to carry data between the Philippines and overseas networks.

The disruption had reduced that capacity, slowing access to some international online services used by corporate and individual customers.

In its earlier advisory, Globe reported a fiber optic break in one of its subsea cable systems. It rerouted data traffic through backup connections and other international links to continue serving customers while addressing the disruption.

That advisory said subsea fiber repairs were expected to take several weeks. The latest update confirmed that services had been restored through system reactivation at the Philippine cable landing station, but did not specify whether physical cable repairs had been completed.

Globe also said its primary IT systems remained operational during the disruption. A separate issue affecting access to some applications, particularly when logging in using Android phones, had been resolved earlier.
