Google urges chrome users to update now after critical security flaw exploited

Google has issued an emergency update for its Chrome browsers after detecting the most critical bug in the web browser.

The cybersecurity flaw was identified by researchers Salvatore Gulizia which is something known as zero-day vulnerability.

Because zero-day vulnerabilities are entirely unknown to developers before exploitation, they present a severe security risk.

The bug could be triggered by clicking a fake website, allowing the crooks to take control through an attack called Remote code execution (RCE).

If RCE occurs, the attackers could run malicious software or commands on affected computers remotely. They can also steal data, install malware and take complete control of targeted devices.

A new multi-platform update for Windows, macOS, and Linux tackles 12 security flaws, headlined by the critical patch for CVE-2026-85046.

"Google is aware that an exploit for CVE-2026-85046 exists in the wild," Google said in an advisory the issue.

"Access to bug details and links may be kept restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix."

"The Stable channel has been updated to 152.0.7977.82/.83 for Windows and Mac and 152.0.7977.82 for Linux, which will roll out over the coming days/weeks," Google wrote in a blog post.

To update Chrome, open the browser on your computer, click the three vertical dots in the top-right corner, and select Help followed by Google Chrome.

Chrome will check for updates and install them automatically. Finally, click Relaunch to restart your browser and complete the update.
