Gulf banks may be more vulnerable to retaliatory cyber attacks by Iran and its proxies, with experts in the region warning of increased network probing in recent days as the conflict between Iran, the US and Israel enters its fifth day.
Following US and Israeli air strikes that killed the country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other key regime figures, cyber security firm CrowdStrike said it has seen a surge in claimed activity from “Iran-aligned and sympathetic” groups engaged in “hacktivism”. One group calling itself Hydro Kitten indicated the financial sector is a “decisive target”.
