Hackers breached the infrastructure of the Russian Central Election Commission

An anonymous hacker group called CikLeak infiltrated the infrastructure of the Russian Central Election Commission and its contractors a few days before the State Duma elections.

The target was Rostelecom’s subsidiary “Cifrotech,” which develops the “Elections” 2.0 automated voting system. As a result of the hack, the hackers obtained internal company documents, source code, call logs, passwords, and employee correspondence . The hackers sent the archive of materials to the editorial office of “Vazhnye Istorii,” which confirmed its authenticity.

The “Elections” DAS system was launched in Russia in early 2026, and the elections to the 9th State Duma will be the first federal campaign to use it. Earlier, Ella Pamfilova, chair of the Russian Central Election Commission, had stated that the system could not be hacked; however, a few hours before reports of the incident emerged, the commission announced that it was conducting a review of the system’s vulnerabilities.
