Comcast users may be eligible for a cash payout from a $117.5 million data breach settlement.

According to the complaint, Comcast allegedly failed to protect over 31 million customers’ personal information during a data breach that occurred in October 2023 and was announced in December 2023.

The lawsuit accused Comcast of failing to notify customers a third-party criminal cyberattack that gave the attacker access to customer data.

Comcast allegedly violated state consumer statutes and other laws when it failed to properly notify customers.

Plaintiffs claimed Comcast could have prevented the breach by taking reasonable cybersecurity measures.

Comcast agreed to a $117.5 million settlement to resolve the class action, but denies any wrongdoing.

Class members must be U.S. residents who received a notice that their personal information may have been compromised as a result of the data breach around Dec. 18, 2023.

To receive part of the settlement, class members must submit a claim form online by Aug. 14, 2026.

Payments will provide up to $10,000 with documentation of out-of-pocket expenses, including money spent to deal with or protect themselves from fraud or identity theft, according to the settlement website .

Those who don’t have documented expenses may request an alternative cash payment of approximately $50, though the exact amount depends on the number of claims submitted.

Class members who do not wish to participate in the settlement must exclude themselves by June 1, 2026 by mailing a written request to the settlement administrator at the following address:
