Kuwait hit by drone attacks; Brent crude oil and WTI crude oil surge

JAKARTA - Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), the state‑owned energy company of Kuwait, reported a fire at its oil complex located in Shuwaikh on Sunday (5/4).

According to a Reuters report citing local sources, the incident occurred following a drone attack in the early hours of the morning.

Meanwhile, Kuwait’s Ministry of Finance, as quoted by state media, claimed that the drone attack originated from Iran. However, reports stated that there were no casualties in the area, which is vital to one of the world’s largest oil‑producing countries.

A few days earlier, similar drone attacks also struck Kuwait’s critical infrastructure, including power plants, water desalination facilities, and government office complexes.

Even so, there has been no official from Iran either confirming or denying the claim.

It is worth noting that the drone attacks on Kuwait took place as the conflict between the United States (US) and Israel against Iran has escalated and entered its sixth week.

After weeks of absorbing attacks from the US and Israel, Iran retaliated by striking Israel and several Gulf countries that have allowed parts of their territory to serve as US military bases.

The rising tensions in the US‑Israel conflict with Iran have pushed global crude oil prices back above US$100 per barrel at the end of this week.

Futures contracts for WTI crude surged 11.41 per cent to US$111.54 per barrel in the final trading session of the week, while Brent futures rose 7.78 per cent to US$109.03 per barrel. (KR/LM)
