Major Airline Hit With Class Action Lawsuits Over Data Breaches

Frontier Airlines has been hit with two separate class action lawsuits regarding a data breach that occurred on May 12 and June 3.

According to TopClassActions.com , the lawsuits — both of which were filed on July 15 in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado — accuse the airline of insufficiently protecting customer and employee data during the breach conducted by a hacker supergroup known as Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters. Social Security numbers, government-issued ID numbers, and addresses were among the personal information compromised during the breach.

“Instead of providing a reasonable level of security that would have prevent the hacking incident, [Frontier] instead calculated to increase its own profits at the expense of plaintiff and class members by utilizing cheaper ineffective security measures,” one of the lawsuits reads.

What’s worse is that Frontier failed to notify those who were impacted by the breach until July 9, TopClassActions.com adds. Therefore, the lawsuits claim that Frontier kept victims from protecting themselves sooner by keeping them in the dark for longer.

Claim Depot states that the exact number of victims is unknown. However, people in Texas, Massachusetts, and Vermont have been among the confirmed to have been affected so far.

The lawsuits are looking for financial compensation for plaintiffs and class members, Westword reports . They’re also looking for Frontier to pay for three year’s worth of credit monitoring for each of the victims.

Frontier declined to speak to Westword regarding the lawsuits.
