Prestwichandwhitefieldguide • August 27, 2026

Manchester Airport passengers could be affected by a cyber security breach, according to an email sent to them by the airport.

Passengers have received an email informing them “a recent cyber security incident involving customer data”.

In an email to customers, the airport said: “Our investigation has identified that some of your personal information relating to airport car parking, lounge, Fast Track bookings and on-airport WIFI sign-ups has been accessed by an unauthorised third party.”

While it assured customers that their bank and payment details remain safe, it said some key details such as email addresses and phone numbers have been accessed.

It said: “Neither MAG nor the system accessed hold customers’ bank or payment details.

“The data that has been accessed includes customers’ email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registrations and postcodes.”

Manchester Airport says it has taken “immediate action to secure the affected system” and that it is working with specialists and authorities.

It added: “We would like to reassure you that Manchester Airport Group takes the security of customer information extremely seriously and we are taking appropriate actions to manage the incident.

“We would urge you to be particularly cautious of unexpected emails, calls or text messages claiming to be from us.

“We will never you unexpectedly to ask for payment or banking information.”

In an online notice, dated today (August 27), Manchester Airport said: “We immediately contained the risk and have been working with specialist advisors and taking appropriate steps to protect our customers and systems.

“We have informed and are working with the relevant authorities.

“At no point has passenger safety or aviation security been compromised.”

It also confirmed that the airport continues to operate as normal with the cyber security breach not affecting flights at all.
