Meta Platforms ( META , Financials ) said it will seek a federal court contempt order against Israeli spyware firm NSO Group, accusing the company of violating a permanent injunction that barred it from targeting WhatsApp and its users.
Meta said WhatsApp disrupted new spear-phishing attempts linked to NSO. The attacks were similar to earlier “one-click” phishing campaigns, where a single malicious link can compromise a user's device or account.
WhatsApp removed test accounts and groups created by NSO on the platform. NSO did not immediately .
The dispute follows a U.S. court order requiring NSO to stop targeting WhatsApp. Meta said civil rights groups, security researchers and privacy advocates have also backed its fight against NSO's appeal.
For investors, this is not a major revenue story. But it reinforces Meta's push to protect WhatsApp users and defend the platform's privacy reputation.
