Munson Healthcare confirms data breach involving patient information - 9&10 News

TRAVERSE CITY — Munson Healthcare has confirmed that an unauthorized third party gained access to and obtained data maintained by electronic health record vendor Cerner.

Cerner determined through an investigation that, at least as early as Jan. 22, 2025, an unauthorized third party gained access to personal health information on legacy Cerner systems that Munson Healthcare uses, Munson Healthcare said.

Munson Healthcare said the personal information involved may have included a patient’s name, Social Security number and information included within patient medical records, such as medical record numbers, doctors, diagnoses, medicines, test results, images, care and treatment.

Munson Healthcare said it began investigating the incident as soon as it learned of it. Munson Healthcare said Cerner took steps to secure the system and engaged with law enforcement and cybersecurity specialists.

Munson Healthcare said it and Cerner are offering two complimentary services to help protect patient identities. Munson Healthcare said patients have access to Experian IdentityWorksSM Credit Plus 3B, which provides credit monitoring for 24 months, and must enroll to use the service.

Munson Healthcare said patients also have access to Identity Restoration for 24 months and that service does not require any action at this time.

Munson Healthcare apologized for any inconvenience and said it is working with its vendors and taking steps to keep patient data safe in the future.
