New Fraud Kit Uses Deepfakes To Defeat KYC Biometrics

Coinmarketcap • April 7, 2026

Deddy Lavid, CEO of blockchain cybersecurity platform Cyvers, called the tool's emergence a "wake-up call" for the financial industry. He said current identity verification systems leave platforms exposed at the point of entry. Lavid urged platforms to combine identity verification with real-time AI monitoring rather than relying on a single layer of defense. "As AI lowers the barriers to synthetic identity fraud, the front door will always remain vulnerable," he told Cointelegraph.

The kit also lowers the barrier to romance fraud. It comes pre-configured to support pig butchering schemes, a type of long-con fraud in which victims are persuaded to invest in fake platforms. Users can run these schemes without any technical background. Crypto investors lost $5.5 billion across 200,000 flagged pig butchering cases in 2024.

The threat of AI-powered attacks on financial identity systems is not new. Binance chief security officer Jimmy Su warned in May 2023 that improving AI algorithms would eventually crack identity verification using a single photograph of the target. The latest kit appears to have moved well beyond that capability, adding real-time visual and audio manipulation to the threat.

Crypto phishing losses fell 83% in 2025, according to a January report from Scam Sniffer. Malicious malware targeting crypto wallets remained active throughout the period. New attack tools continued to surface even as aggregate phishing losses declined. The growing sophistication of kits like Jinkusu's suggests the blockchain security landscape has grown more complex even as headline losses have dropped.
