Poland Detains PGZ Employee Suspected of Espionage, Says Minister

WARSAW, May 29 (Reuters) - Polish authorities have detained an employee of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) on suspicion of spying for a foreign state, Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Friday.

Poland says its role as a hub for military and other supplies to Ukraine has made it a target for Russian spies trying to gather information on support for Kyiv's efforts to repel Russia's invasion, as well as to engage in acts of sabotage.

"On May 27... the department for military affairs detained a citizen of the Republic of Poland, an employee of one of the facilities of the PGZ Group, on suspicion of espionage on behalf of a foreign state," Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X.

"The district court in Poznan ordered on May 29 this year the application of preventive measures in the form of a temporary arrest for a period of 3 months."
