Malware Scams Target Seniors, Resulting in $69,000 Losses for Android Users In Singapore, Android users have lost at least $69,000 in scams targeting seniors over a three-month period. The scams involve impersonation of government officials and malware installation via malicious APK files. Victims are contacted through WhatsApp and prompted to download these files, leading to unauthorized transactions and the uninstallation of security applications. The police reported at least eight cases since April 1, 2026. Victims often realize they have been scammed only after suspicious transactions occur. Authorities have issued warnings advising the public to avoid sharing personal information and to download apps only from official stores.
