Scotia-Glenville CSD: District Facebook page has been hacked, do not interact

Cbs6Albany • March 29, 2026

SCOTIA, NY (WRGB) — Scotia-Glenville school officials are warning the public not to interact with the district's page at this time.

According to a message on the district's website Sunday, at some point, a malicious actor gained administrative control of the district page, and at 9:04 am on March 29, 2026, this individual posted a video that is not only inappropriate but references adult content the district would never condone. They say the individual has also made additional posts and responses while posing as Scotia-Glenville Schools.

The message affirmed that the district’s internal servers and data systems have not been compromised. The issue originated from a non-Scotia-Glenville account belonging to our communications specialist, which was used to manage the district’s page. That account was targeted and hacked, giving the unauthorized user control over the school’s presence.

The district is working with the FBI and the Troop G Cybersecurity Crime units to investigate the source of the hack and regaining control of the page.

The district has reported the incident to (Meta) multiple times, but said the recovery process is not immediate. Because the content currently being posted does not fall into specific high-priority categories (such as human trafficking and child pornography), ’s response time is slower than we would like. We appreciate your patience as we navigate their security protocols.

Scotia-Glenville CSD asks the public to follow these guidelines to protect their personal information and devices:
