Under the framework, the two institutions will work together to strengthen cybersecurity networks, protect consumers from online threats, promote competition among local fintech innovators and establish channels for real-time data sharing and cross-sector enforcement.

South Sudan’s National Communication Authority (NCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bank of South Sudan to strengthen cooperation on cybersecurity, consumer protection and financial technology regulation.

The agreement was signed by NCA Director-General Gieth Kon Mathiang and Bank of South Sudan Governor Addis Ababa Othow. It aims to improve coordination between telecommunications regulation and central banking oversight as the country seeks to modernise its financial services sector.

Under the framework, the two institutions will work together to strengthen cybersecurity networks, protect consumers from online threats, promote competition among local fintech innovators and establish channels for real-time data sharing and cross-sector enforcement.

Mathiang said resilient technology was essential to modern banking and building public trust in digital financial services. Othow also highlighted the importance of cooperation between regulatory institutions in protecting national financial security and ensuring reliable services.

The partnership is expected to support a more secure digital financial ecosystem by aligning telecommunications infrastructure oversight with central banking supervision, helping improve the safety and reliability of digital transactions across South Sudan.
