Back Thisismoney Stansted owner Manchester Airports Group suffers cyber hack with nearly 9m customers ...
Hackers have accessed personal data belonging to 8.7m people after targeting one of Britain’s largest airport operators.
Manchester Airports Group, which operates Stansted, Manchester and East Midlands Airports, revealed the scale of the cyber hack today.
Hackers accessed data relating to car park, lounge and fast track bookings and in-airport wifi sign-ups for all three airports. The data included people's email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration details and postcodes.
A spokesperson for MAG said the hack is restricted to email addresses for the 'vast majority' of customers affected and the security incident did not reveal any bank details.
The company said it was made aware of the cyber security incident yesterday but it is believed to have happened a few days earlier.
It has not disclosed how cyber attackers targeted its system.
Nearly 9 million customers' details have been accessed after hackers struck airport owner
Stansted Airport, one of three airports whose' customer details were plundered
In an email to customers, MAG urged them to be ‘particularly cautious of unexpected emails, calls or text messages claiming to be from us’ – adding: ‘We will never you unexpectedly to ask for payment or banking information. We apologise for any inconvenience or concern this may cause.’
Customers have been told they do not need to take any action and should 'remain vigilant as normal for unsolicited emails and texts'.
The amount of people affected makes the hack one of the largest in the UK of recent times.
But, unlike the M&S and Co-op cyber hacks last year, which caused significant disruption to operations and supplies, airport operations are unaffected.
Personal data of all 6.5m Co-op members was hacked into in April 2025, while an estimated 10m people had their data accessed during a hack on Transport for London in 2024.
