Student Hacks IIT Kanpur And IIT Madras Websites After Being Denied Admission

For years, students across India have worked towards securing a place at an IIT, often after months of intense preparation and competition.

But one admission rejection has led to an unusual cybersecurity controversy.

A student who was denied admission to a new cybersecurity programme allegedly hacked the websites of IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras.

The message left on the website said he wanted “ a fair chance”.

Now, instead of immediately filing an FIR, IIT Kanpur is considering giving the student another opportunity, raising questions cybersecurity skills, accountability and second chances.

The student had applied for the new cybersecurity programme jointly offered by IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras.

According to reports, he was denied admission. Soon after, the official websites of both institutes were allegedly targeted in a cyberattack.

The hacker reportedly left a message on the website saying:

“All I need is just a fair chance.”

The websites were later restored, and the institutes began examining the incident.

The student's identity has not been disclosed publicly.

Reports describe him as an applicant for the newly launched cybersecurity programme. No further personal details him have been released by the institutes.

The message left on the website indicated his frustration over not getting an opportunity during the admission process.
