The Kenaitze Indian Tribe Notifies Individuals of Data Security Incident

KENAI, Alaska , Sept. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kenaitze Indian Tribe ("KIT") has learned of a data security incident that may have involved protected health information. KIT is providing notice of this incident to potentially affected individuals and resources to assist them.

On July 27, 2026, KIT became aware of suspicious activity on its network. With the assistance of cybersecurity specialists, KIT promptly took steps to ensure the security of its network environment and launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the activity. The investigation determined that between July 16, 2026 and July 27, 2026, an unauthorized actor gained access to the network and may have accessed or downloaded certain files. KIT then undertook a comprehensive review to determine what information was accessible within the files and to whom such information relates, as well to identify appropriate address information for those potentially impacted.

Based on KIT's review, the following protected health information for individuals may have been involved in the incident: First and last name, Social Security number, driver's license or state identification number, financial account number, date of birth, medical information, and health insurance information. KIT provided notice of this incident to potentially impacted individuals beginning on September 25, 2026.

KIT has established a toll-free call center to answer questions the incident and address related concerns. Call center representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm Central Time, excluding U.S. holidays and can be reached at (844) 301-0179.

The privacy and protection of personal and protected health information is a top priority for KIT, which deeply regrets any inconvenience or concern this incident may cause.
