Back Kucoin U.S. Court Seizes $8.37 Million in Crypto Assets from BlackCat/ALPHV Ransomware Collaborator
ME News reports that on July 20 (UTC+8), the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida ordered the forfeiture of approximately 90.319 BTC, 7,999.873 XMR, and small amounts of XRP, XLM, and SOL held by Angelo Martino, a conspirator in the BlackCat/ALPHV ransomware scheme and former ransomware negotiator, with a total value of $8.37 million. The court also ordered the forfeiture of two Florida properties, along with vehicles and boats owned by Martino. Foresight News notes that since April 2023, Angelo Martino betrayed his employer, cybersecurity firm DigitalMint, and its clients by colluding with the BlackCat/ALPHV ransomware group to provide hackers with confidential negotiation details of victims—including insurance payout caps, internal negotiation positions, and strategies—to help maximize ransom demands and profit personally. He also participated in ransomware attacks targeting U.S. victims, assisting in the acquisition of approximately $75.3 million in total ransom payments. (Source: Foresight News)
