  • •AI-generated malware was used in a network intrusion to map Active Directory.
  • •The attack utilized RDP access with stolen credentials and bespoke PowerShell scripts.
  • •Detection is challenging due to the unique nature of the AI-generated scripts.

A threat actor utilized AI-generated malware to infiltrate a network on June 3, 2026, employing a PowerShell script created through a method called vibe coding. This technique allows attackers to generate custom scripts using natural language prompts. The attacker gained initial access via RDP with stolen credentials and executed the script to map the Active Directory environment. The script, which was identified as '100% Working AD Information Gathering Script - FULLY FIXED,' showcased characteristics of AI generation, including over-engineering and placeholder text. Following the reconnaissance, the attacker used legitimate tools like s5cmd and SharpShares for data exfiltration. Huntress, which analyzed the incident, emphasized that while AI is involved, the attack methodology remains traditional. The unique nature of the script complicates detection efforts for defenders, as traditional antivirus tools rely on known signatures. The incident highlights the evolving threat landscape where even less skilled actors can leverage AI for sophisticated cyberattacks.
