Angola Cables has upgraded its MONET and South Atlantic Cable System (SACS) submarine networks using Ciena technology to support 800Gbps services. This upgrade aims to meet the increasing demand for bandwidth driven by hyperscalers, cloud providers, and AI applications. The MONET cable connects the US and Brazil over 10,556 km, while SACS links Brazil and Angola over 6,165 km, providing a direct route between the US and Angola. The upgrade allows Angola Cables to offer more diverse and resilient routes to various customers, enhancing its role as a connectivity link between Africa and the Americas. The deployment includes Ciena's Waveserver platform and WaveLogic 6 Extreme coherent optics, enabling flexible capacity allocation across the subsea network. This move is part of a broader trend to increase international connectivity in response to rising cloud and AI workloads.
