Bengaluru Launches AI-Powered Water Command Centre to Combat Water Loss

Bengaluru is set to inaugurate one of Asia's largest AI-driven Integrated Intelligent Water and Sewerage Management Centre, developed by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). This command centre will monitor the city's drinking water supply and sewage systems in real time, focusing on the 775 million litres per day supplied under the Cauvery Stage 5 project, which serves over 110 villages. The system employs AI to detect pipeline leaks instantly, addressing the city's current loss of nearly 28% of water due to leakage and theft. It integrates IoT sensors, GIS mapping, and smart meters to enhance operational efficiency and predictive maintenance. The command centre will also track water quality parameters and ensure compliance with environmental standards for sewage treatment. Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), this initiative marks a significant shift towards data-driven governance in urban water management. The facility is located at Shimsha Bhavan in Jayanagar and is expected to be inaugurated soon.
