Brex has developed and open-sourced CrabTrap, an HTTP/HTTPS proxy designed to monitor and control AI agents' access to APIs and credentials. Traditional security measures were found inadequate for managing agents with API keys and OAuth tokens. CrabTrap intercepts network traffic and utilizes an AI model to evaluate requests in real-time, approving or denying them based on established policies. The platform operates across various programming languages and frameworks without requiring specific SDK integrations. Brex's internal testing revealed that the AI judge activates for less than 3% of requests after agents demonstrate predictable behavior. The system also includes a policy generator that drafts rules based on historical traffic patterns. Brex aims to enhance CrabTrap with additional security features, including single sign-on and role-based access controls. The open-source project has gained significant attention, attracting over 700 GitHub stars.
