Over the past year, Azerbaijan has faced a surge in cyberattacks primarily targeting the technology, energy, and government sectors. According to Suheyl Hamavioglu from Mastercard, the study period from July 2025 to June 2026 revealed that business systems were the most attacked, accounting for 52% of incidents. Physical assets followed at 20%, while customer data and services also faced significant risks. Notably, 54% of attacks were directed at government and technology sectors, with the technology sector being the most affected at 26%. The report indicates that 36% of these attacks originated from Asia-based cyber actors, with various motivations including state support and organized crime. The increasing digital transformation in Azerbaijan is expanding the attack surface, necessitating enhanced cybersecurity measures.
