Fenix24's 'State of Recoverability 2026' report highlights significant shortcomings in ransomware recovery plans among organizations. Out of over 800 clients assessed, only four (0.5%) met their own 24- to 48-hour recovery targets, and none achieved full operational capacity for weeks. A staggering 99.2% of clients lacked a documented identity recovery plan, with Active Directory often compromised first. Recovery efforts were hampered by inadequate multifactor authentication controls, insufficient storage capacity, and unusable backups. The report indicates that identity systems are a critical failure point in recovery efforts, consuming a significant portion of the initial recovery time. Overall, organizations are urged to improve their recovery strategies and conduct thorough dependency mapping to enhance resilience against ransomware attacks.
