On October 12, 2026, Microsoft announced the release of Microsoft-Decision-1, a decision-scoring model designed to improve AI agents' decision-making capabilities. The model, trained on Qwen3.5-9B, outputs calibrated probabilities for various tasks, including routing and classification. In internal tests, it demonstrated a performance improvement of nearly four times in adaptive replanning compared to previous models, with consistency scores 46 times higher. Microsoft plans to further develop the model by incorporating other AI frameworks, including those from OpenAI. The model is not intended for open-ended text generation but is aimed at enhancing decision intelligence in applications. Microsoft is currently testing the model in various scenarios, including customer feedback sorting and incident response evaluations. The launch aligns with a growing trend in AI towards decision-making models rather than traditional text generation.
