Graeme Biggar, the Director General of the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA), stated that technology is not just enabling but actively driving serious and organized crime. The NCA's National Strategic Assessment reported an increase in the threat from serious and organized crime, particularly in cyber crime, with high-profile attacks on organizations like Transport for London and Marks & Spencer. Biggar noted that UK-based attackers are emerging, utilizing sophisticated malware and social engineering techniques. The NCA is receiving around 2,000 referrals per week related to child sexual abuse from tech companies, indicating a serious online threat to children. He criticized tech companies for not taking sufficient responsibility in combating these issues.
