Nexans has commenced the production of 525 kV high-voltage direct current subsea cables for the LanWin2 offshore grid connection in Germany. This marks the first industrial-scale manufacturing of Nexans' 525 kV HVDC cross-linked polyethylene technology at its Halden facility in Norway. The contract, valued at approximately EUR 1 billion, was awarded to Nexans in January 2025 under a framework agreement with TenneT. The project aims to transport 2 GW of offshore wind power from the German North Sea to the Heide region in Schleswig-Holstein, with commissioning expected in 2031. The start of production follows successful technology qualification, transitioning the project into full-scale manufacturing and delivery. The project is part of TenneT's broader offshore grid expansion program, which includes other projects like BalWin3.
