The Federal Government of Nigeria is ramping up its cybersecurity measures in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Galaxy Backbone Limited's CEO, Ibrahim Adeyanju, announced a nationwide rollout of over 15,000 kilometers of fibre-optic infrastructure to bolster connectivity and resilience against cyber threats. This initiative, part of Project BRIDGE, aims to address the recurring spikes in cyber intrusions during elections and civil unrest. The project will extend broadband access to underserved communities and improve digital inclusion. Adeyanju emphasized the importance of secure data centers and upgraded cybersecurity systems in protecting critical national infrastructure. The government is also focusing on public-private partnerships to enhance the digital ecosystem. Investments in Tier III and Tier IV certified facilities are part of the strategy to secure mission-critical applications and data. The efforts are aligned with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda for digital transformation.
