A data breach at Revolut has potentially compromised the accounts of Maltese customers, among 680 affected globally. The breach involved personal data such as names, addresses, and account details, obtained through fraudulent requests sent from hacked Italian government email accounts. The hacker, known as 'IAmNotAVillian', claimed that customers from 31 countries were impacted, including Malta. Revolut has not confirmed the exact number of Maltese accounts affected but stated that its internal systems and customer funds remain secure. The company has reported the incident to relevant authorities and has contacted affected individuals. Additionally, threats of extortion have been made against Revolut, with hackers demanding payment to prevent further information leaks. Malta-based entrepreneur Felix Römer reported receiving blackmail threats containing compromised information about him two months prior to the breach.
