Following a $387.5 million hack of Bitget, CEO Gracy Chen reported that scammers impersonating a major investment firm attempted to deceive her through social engineering. The scammers, aware of her external communications post-theft, formed a team to approach her with fake offers and requests. Chen avoided the scam by verifying the approach with the real firm's leader through a separate channel. She noted that the attack was not a hack but a social engineering attempt. Chen warned other crypto teams to be vigilant, as attackers study public figures to exploit them. Bitget's hack involved a previously unknown flaw in a security product from an outside vendor, which allowed attackers to send fake withdrawal commands. Chen stated that the attackers' methods are consistent with techniques used by DPRK-linked hacker groups, although she emphasized that this attribution is still under assessment.
