Singpass Launches Passkeys to Combat Phishing Scams

Starting July 1, 2026, Singpass will introduce a new passkey feature for secure logins, initially available for iPhone users. This feature aims to reduce phishing risks by using device-bound cryptographic keys, making it impossible for attackers to exploit stolen credentials. The passkeys will only work on legitimate government and private sector websites integrated with Singpass, enhancing user security. Current authentication methods, including QR codes and biometric verification, will remain operational during this transition. GovTech emphasizes that while passkeys improve security, social engineering tactics may still pose risks. The rollout for Android users and desktop support will follow in later phases. Singpass currently serves 5.5 million users and is integrated with over 1,400 services.
