Toronto Crime Stoppers has suspended accepting tips due to a data breach affecting its third-party software, P3. The breach, which occurred in March 2026, resulted in the theft of approximately 176,859 tips submitted between January 2022 and November 2025, along with 14,973 associated names. Sean Sportun, the chair of Toronto Crime Stoppers, stated that they were initially informed by Navigate360, the software owner, that the system was secure and that no Toronto data had been compromised. It wasn't until June that they learned about the breach's impact on Toronto data. The organization has removed its 'Tip Submit' feature and advised the public to report tips directly to the Toronto Police Service. They are currently working on a safer method for tip submissions. The charity expressed regret for violating the anonymity promise to those whose information was compromised.
