World, co-founded by Sam Altman, has launched a biometric verification feature called the Human Badge for Zoom, aimed at verifying participants in video calls to combat deepfake impersonation. The system uses images from World’s iris-scanning Orb device, a live selfie, and the participant’s video feed to confirm identity. This feature is now available globally through the Zoom Marketplace and was previously tested in a limited beta with asset manager VanEck. Financial firms such as Bain Capital and Pantera Capital are initial design partners for the broader identity verification technology. The rollout comes in response to increased incidents of AI-generated impersonation, including a notable case in 2024 where a $25 million fraud occurred during a video call. World has not disclosed specific banks using the full suite of its financial services. Currently, the verification network covers over 18 million users holding a Proof of Human credential.
