The Yamalo-Nenets region of Russia is offering rewards of 1 million rubles (approximately €10,500) for each Ukrainian drone destroyed, following a recent incident where a drone reached Novy Urengoy, a key gas production area. This initiative comes as local authorities express heightened concern over the threat posed by Ukrainian UAVs to critical energy infrastructure, located 3,000 kilometers from the front lines. The payments will only be made if the targeted facility remains undamaged. In addition to the drone destruction rewards, the region is also incentivizing recruitment into mobile fire groups with payments of 100,000 rubles for employed individuals and 150,000 for the unemployed. The region has begun issuing drone alerts and restricting civilian aviation as the threat of drone attacks becomes more pronounced. A previous attack on September 9 reportedly damaged the Purovsky Gas Condensate Processing Plant, further escalating fears about the vulnerability of critical infrastructure.
