The government stated that over 60 more Zimbabweans are still trapped on the frontlines, lured by deceptive job offers from fraudulent agencies using social media. Information Minister Zhemu Soda described the situation as a sophisticated scheme of deception and human trafficking. Victims were promised lucrative salaries and safe working conditions but ended up coerced into combat with little training. Similar cases have emerged from other African nations, including South Africa and Kenya, indicating a broader pattern of exploitation. Ukrainian officials estimate that more than 1,700 Africans have been recruited under similar circumstances. Zimbabwe is currently negotiating with Russian authorities for the repatriation of bodies and the safe return of survivors.
