The watchdog said it is currently working with its external supplier to “establish the full facts, including the extent of the data involved”.
It is investigating whether any personal information from residents has been accessed.
In the meantime, social housing residents are unable to submit a new complaint online, view an existing complaint or use webchat or webform. They are asked to email [email protected] or call 0300 111 3000 instead.
The ombudsman said it is working to restore its services “as quickly as possible” and will updates when it can.
It has recommended that individuals “exercise their usual caution when responding to unexpected communications”.
“Do not disclose personal information unless you are confident of the identity of the requester and report any suspicious activity to the relevant organisation or authorities,” it urged.
The incident, which has been reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office, follows last month’s cyber attack on 105,000- L&Q . The landlord is aiming to restore its online services this week.
