Science and ICT Committee Selects 42 Witnesses and Observers for Parliamentary Audit, Including TVING and Others in '40 Million Account Leak' Case - 아시아경제

The National Assembly’s Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee has selected Choi Juhui, CEO of TVING, Yoon Sanghyun, CEO of CJ ENM, and others as witnesses for this year’s parliamentary audit in connection with the leak of 40 million accounts. Chief information security officers (CISOs) of the three major telecom operators—SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus—as well as representatives from major domestic and international ICT companies such as Google, Apple, and Meta, have also been summoned in large numbers.

On September 22, the committee held its plenary meeting and approved a resolution to summon witnesses and observers for the 2026 parliamentary audit. The finalized list includes a total of 42 individuals: 29 witnesses and 13 observers.

Several ICT industry figures have been named as witnesses in connection with personal data breach incidents. From the three telecom companies, the list includes Lee Jonghyun, Chief Information Security Officer of SK Telecom; Lee Sangyun, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer of KT; and Hong Kwanhee, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer of LG Uplus.

Coupang’s Chief Information Security Officer Brett Anthony Mathis was selected due to the company’s remedial measures following a data leak incident. Lim Hanwook, CEO of Toss Payments, and Ted Shin, Chief Information Security Officer, have both been requested to appear.

Other witnesses include Kim Jina, CEO of Meta Korea; Kim Junghoon, Chief Information Security Officer of Woowa Brothers; Park Sugyeong, CEO of Duo; and Hong Seungil, CEO of Healing Paper Gangnam Unni.

CEOs of domestic subsidiaries of major tech companies have also been selected as witnesses. Regarding in-app payments, Yoon Goo, President of Google Korea, and Mark Lee, CEO of Apple Korea, have been named as witnesses.

Oh Yeonju, the domestic manager for Telegram, and Shin Changseop, CEO of X Korea, will face questions the proliferation of illegal information and drug-related posts through social media platforms.

In the broadcasting and media sector, Heo Seohong, CEO of GS Retail, and Kim Jaegyeom, CEO of Lotte Homeshopping, have been named as witnesses over the TV shopping re-authorization system and the protection of small and medium-sized suppliers. Park Hyeonjin, Vice President of KT, and Kim Byeongjin, Head of KT’s Media Business Division, have been called to address the issue of compensation for suspension of Unification TV broadcasts.
