Specialists of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine conducted a successful special operation in Russian cyberspace. Cyberintelligence officers managed to obtain dozens of gigabytes of classified data from one of the key enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex — the M. F. Stelmakh Polyus Research Institute.
The results of the operation were reported by the press service of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine. The obtained file contains internal document flow, official information of the management and technical levels of the enterprise, as well as personal data of designers, engineers and other specialists working for the aggressor’s defense sector.
Polyus Research Institute is a leading research and production center of the Russian Federation, which is part of the Rostec state corporation and specializes in the development of laser technologies, inertial systems and quantum electronics. The documents obtained indicate the deep dependence of Russian arms production on supplies from China.
In particular, Chinese-made optical components are critical for the and guidance systems of the Iskander missile system. In addition, laser gyroscopes from the Tianjin Institute are used to stabilize and orient Russian missiles and drones.
Of particular interest to Ukrainian intelligence are drawings and technical reports on the design of the Russian laser anti-drone complex. The institute’s specialists are working on a technological system that should detect, track and hold targets in the laser’s field of action. According to internal documentation, experimental samples of this installation are already undergoing field tests in the Bryansk region.
It was previously reported that Ukrainian cyber experts from the 256th Cyber Assault Division and the Ukrainian Militant analytical group conducted a large-scale operation that resulted in access to internal data of the Russian analogue of Starlink, the Gonets satellite system. During 2023–2025, hackers systematically downloaded classified documentation and correspondence of the company’s management, transferring the data to the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
