Thehackernews Xen Hypervisor Flaws Allow VM Memory Access
Article Content
- •Two critical vulnerabilities in Xen allow guest VMs to access each other's memory.
- •Patches are only available for Xen versions 4.17 and later; older versions remain vulnerable.
- •No known exploitation has been reported as of November 4, 2026.
On November 3, 2026, the Xen Project disclosed two vulnerabilities, CVE-2026-102703 and CVE-2026-102704, affecting all Xen versions from 4.6 onward. These flaws allow a malicious guest VM to read and write arbitrary memory belonging to other VMs, including the privileged Dom0 domain. The vulnerabilities stem from incorrect handling in the grant copy operation, which is used for data sharing between VMs. Patches have been released for Xen versions 4.17 and later, but no fixes are available for versions 4.6 to 4.16, which remain vulnerable. Affected systems include XCP-ng 8.3 and Qubes OS 4.3, both of which have issued updates requiring a host reboot. The vulnerabilities were discovered by Anthropic's Claude AI model and validated by other researchers. As of November 4, no known exploitation has been reported, and the vulnerabilities are not listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
