The ViaTunisia segment of the Medusa Submarine Cable System has gone live, connecting Marseille, France, to Bizerte, Tunisia. This new high-capacity digital corridor enhances connectivity between Europe and North Africa, supporting growing data traffic demands. Co-financed by the EU under the Connecting Europe Facility, the project aims to provide a secure and resilient route for telecommunications. The cable spans 8,760 km and connects 17 landing points across the Mediterranean. Orange, the telecom operator, emphasizes the cable's role in minimizing outages and improving network resilience. The project was initiated with various phases, including marine surveys and final splicing, before reaching operational status. The launch coincides with a broader trend of subsea cable developments aimed at enhancing Africa's global connectivity. The ViaTunisia project is expected to support advancements in cloud services, AI applications, and digital transformation initiatives.
