- •91% of vulnerabilities with public PoCs were exploited within 48 hours.
- •CVE-2026-41940 allows unauthorized access to cPanel, while CVE-2026-31431 enables privilege escalation.
- •AI is accelerating both vulnerability disclosure and exploitation rates.
CrowdStrike's recent analysis reveals that hackers are exploiting vulnerabilities almost immediately after public proof-of-concept (PoC) code is released. Between January and July 2026, 91% of vulnerabilities with public PoCs were exploited within 48 hours, with the fastest at just 35 minutes. Notably, the critical vulnerabilities CVE-2026-41940 and CVE-2026-31431 were highlighted, with CVE-2026-41940 allowing unauthorized access to cPanel and CVE-2026-31431 enabling privilege escalation in Linux systems. The report emphasizes that public vulnerability research, while beneficial for defenders, also provides attackers with a ready-made toolkit. This trend is exacerbated by the use of AI in developing and modifying exploits. Organizations are urged to reassess their patching strategies to mitigate these risks.
