KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has welcomed 2027 Budget measures to strengthen Malaysia's digital economy, expand connectivity and promote digital inclusivity, including wider artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and enhanced cybersecurity.

TM group chief executive officer Datuk Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said the budget's focus on digital infrastructure, sovereign AI cloud and post-quantum cryptography would strengthen the country's digital capabilities and regional competitiveness.

"We believe these initiatives will strengthen Malaysia's digital capabilities and lay a solid foundation for the country's competitiveness in the region," he said in a statement.

Amar Huzaimi also said TM welcomed the expansion of the Jalinan Digital Negara initiative and improved connectivity for Orang Asli villages, higher learning institutions and Federal Land Development Authority settlements.

He said the implementation of the Salam submarine cable would further strengthen connectivity between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, while Kempen Internet Selamat would promote safer online participation.

"Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are key drivers of the economy, and TM plays an active role in supporting their digital adoption.

"We are particularly encouraged by the announcement of Geran Sejahtera Madani, which will help accelerate business growth among MSMEs and improve livelihoods," he said.

The group also welcomed continued investment in National Information Dissemination Centres, technical and vocational education and training, Kampung Angkat Madani, and Sekolah Angkat Madani, alongside improvements to public infrastructure, including schools and hospitals.

He said TM remains committed to supporting national priorities through its extensive digital infrastructure and capabilities.
